2010 Online Story #2
Okay, so I’m ready to post a day early, and realized I don’t have a title for this one. I’m horrible at titles, particularly with short stories. So, either I could hold off another day and think of a title, or I can delegate the job to readers. I think I’ll go with option 2. More on that in a minute. Back to announcing the story. This is the 2nd free online Darkest Powers story for 2010, as chosen by readers. The subject is: Simon and Tori after Chloe and Derek get off the bus in The Awakening. I’ll post on the 1st and 15th of every month until it’s done. Be warned, though–the chapters will be short. It’s not very long, and I’d like to make it last the rest of the year. In the past, I’ve run a “find the typo” contest. It worked well when there was always at least one typo. But as my proofreaders have improved, the rate of typos has dropped, and instead I get a couple dozen “non-typo” reports (questioning word choice, sentence structure, dialogue grammar etc) and I have to explain why that doesn’t count. So no more typo contests. If you find one, I’d appreciate hearing about it, but it won’t win you a prize. So how do you win a prize? Comment on the chapter. When I post the next chapter, I’ll draw a winner from the previous post’s comments. That person will get to choose between a signed book and a $20 Amazon gift certificate. This contest will run with every post. To start, there’s an extra contest. Name the story. Read the first instalment and suggest a title. The winner will get a special prize pack: a set of signed my new design Darkest Power bookmarks, a signed Gathering bookmark, a Darkness Rising pen, a Darkness Rising USB drive bracelet and a Darkest Powers mousepad. Also, five others who suggest a title will get the signed bookmarks. I’ll pick a winning title on Monday (Oct 18) and randomly draw 5 others for the bookmarks. My title is “Can’t Catch a Break.” Love the short stories. Gives me something to read till the next book comes along
“Twice-Baked” because of the double burn on Simon- Chloe and Derek leaving together, and Tori messing with his stuff
or “Double Dutch” to go with the Ds and the multiple ropes everyone jumps

Hey! I loved the start of the story and am especially looking forward to more insight into Tori’s character. My title suggestions are: The Longest Bus Ride Ever, How I Realized My Crush is a Dork, Love Becomes Disgust, Review (because Tori starts seeing Simon from a new perspective), and The Challenging (Bus Ride)
Um… How bout since they woke up and Derek and Chole weren’t there… “Gone”? Or “Tin Foil” since Simon wishes he were the one to help Chloe and be the knight in shining armor, but he turned out to be the retard in til foil. By the way u love your books. I cant wait for the other chapters and the Gathering!

By the way, and for the point of view of Tori she had a big crush on Simon so he was kinda like her knight at the beginnin but she didn’t like how he really was after she spent that day with him. So Tin Foil symbolizes her disappointment.

“Mission Impossible” Cause those two working together and finding simon’s dad’s friend without bloodshed is a impossibe mission.
” A week in hell” Cause that’s what it’s going to be. Or days in hell, however long chloe and derek are gone.

Since Simon and Toris efforts in finding Derek and Chloe are futile and they turn out finding them instead since tori and simon can’t work that well with eachother and because after spending the day with simon tori realizes.that liking him is a hopeless cause, one because she realizes how much he likes chloe and because she realizes what a dork he is

Any one have any idea when Kelley is going to announce the new title? She said that 18th but…. yeah. Maybe tomorrow. Really excited to see what Kelley decided. Anything has to be better that refering it it as “That new short story with Tori and Simon.”
Another one late to the comp but how about s(Tori)teller? Yes, it’s probably work better if it was Tori with a ‘Y’ not an ‘I’.
Tori no longer had a crush on Simon before this story starts. And Tori has a point. The way both boys view Chloe is weird. She is very nice, and very loyal, and smart. But she is hardly perfect. I do think the title should have something to do with Tori and Simon getting to understand each other, and themselves. I do think Tori is dealing with how her mom treated her better then I could have. And she probably didn’t really like Simon all that much. he was just another thing that Chloe had taken away, like her mothers respect. Although of course Mrs Enright probably only said nice stuff about Chloe to hurt Tori and discourage them all. I think the titale should be something like “Discovery”
