2011 Online Story Ideas
January 11, 2011

I’d like to do another story in 2011.  Given my crazy schedule, it may only be one original piece, though I have ideas for posting something else later (previously released, but not widely available)

The story will start in May.  Right now, I need ideas.

Last time, I gathered ideas, then posted a poll.  And those who were around then know what happened–someone hacked the poll and I had to cut it short and choose the story idea that was winning pre-hack. So this year, no poll. Instead, I’ll pick a few of the ideas suggested and ask for feedback.  I won’t necessarily choose the idea with the most feedback, but rather the one that seems strongest after I’ve read readers’ comments on them.

To suggest an idea, post it here.

I’m looking for a story set in the Darkest Powers universe. It can be any of those characters (including Kat) or you can say “give us a story about another outside character, like Kat.”  Don’t know who Kat is?  Look here.

The looser the idea, the better.  For example, I’m much more likely to pick “give us a story about another teen in the Project Genesis” rather than “give us a story about another teen in the project who’s a blue-haired 16 year old teleporting half-demon that sings in a country band and discovers her long-lost identical twin sister, who is trying to kill her to take her place and get a record deal.”  As a writer, I don’t mind some direction, but I really like to come up with my own stories :)   As a rule of thumb, if your idea take more than 20 words to explain, it’ll be too restrictive for me.

I will NOT rewrite any part of the existing novels from another point of view.  Sorry!  I know readers like that idea, but the prospect bores me (not to be too blunt LOL)  Again, I want to come up with my own story, not use someone else’s or reuse my own.

Also, as a hint, when I choose ideas, I’m unlikely to choose more than one per narrator. In other words, even if 90% of the ideas are from Derek’s point of view, only one will make it to the short list. So think broader.

Challenge me to do something new and fun, and you stand a much better idea of seeing your idea turned into a story.

So post your ideas here.  As an added incentive, if I choose yours for the short list, you’ll get a signed copy of your choice of my YA books. I’ll collect ideas until February 15.
